Name the variables and the exact condition they satisfy before manipulating an expression.
Build a valid route
Transform one condition at a time. Substitute, factor or complete a square only when it preserves the stated domain and equality cases.
Verify the conclusion
Return to the exact wording and test the final conclusion against every stated condition. A clean calculation is not enough if it solves a different problem.
