Match method to mechanism

Condoms and diaphragms physically block sperm; periodic abstinence avoids intercourse during the fertile window. Copper-bearing IUDs increase sperm phagocytosis and reduce fertilising capacity. Hormonal implants and oral pills can suppress ovulation; a Lippes loop does not.

Read pills and temporary methods carefully

Conventional combined pills are taken on a cycle schedule; Saheli is a weekly non-steroidal pill in the source material. Lactational amenorrhea is a temporary method after childbirth and is considered reliable only for a limited early period under specific conditions, not for two years.

Judge an ideal method

A contraceptive should be effective, reversible, accessible and have few side effects. It should not permanently impair sexual desire or fertility.

OlympIQ exam lens

  • ✓Barrier methods prevent sperm and ovum from meeting.
  • ✓Copper IUDs act locally; they do not inhibit ovulation.
  • ✓Norplant releases progestogen and can inhibit ovulation.
  • ✓Saheli is weekly; lactational amenorrhea is time-limited.
  • ✓Contraception should be reversible with low side effects.
OlympIQ trap

Do not assign a hormonal mechanism to every IUD. Distinguish copper devices, inert loops, pills and implants.
