Use the decay fraction

N=N0(1/2)(t/T)N = N_{0}(1/2)^(t/T)

Here 0.185/0.26 = 0.712, so t = 5700 × log(0.712)/log(0.5) ≈ 2,788 years. Select the nearest range: around 3,000 years. Choose B.

OlympIQ exam lens

  • ✓Use remaining/original isotope amount.
  • ✓Convert the decay fraction into half-lives.
OlympIQ trap

Do not treat a non-half fraction as one complete half-life.
