Read Reproductive Organs by Structure and Role
Identify each reproductive organ by its shape, position and main role.
Living-system questions are solved by matching a structure or organism to its function, process and stated condition.
Match structure to anatomy
Testes are oval primary reproductive glands: they form sperm and secrete androgens. The uterus is inverted pear-shaped; the infundibulum is funnel-shaped and bears fimbriae at its opening. Semen is sperm suspended in seminal plasma; the male urethra carries urine and semen at different times.
Avoid unreliable anatomy claims
Mammary ducts converge toward a mammary ampulla and lactiferous duct. Hymen appearance varies and cannot establish whether someone has had sex.
Separate support cells from hormone-producing cells
Sertoli cells inside seminiferous tubules support developing sperm; release of spermatozoa from them is spermiation. Leydig (interstitial) cells between the tubules secrete androgens. Bulbourethral glands provide lubricating secretion, and the loose skin over the glans penis is the foreskin (prepuce), not the hymen.
OlympIQ exam lens
- ✓Testis: gametes plus sex hormones.
- ✓Uterus: inverted pear; infundibulum: funnel; fimbriae: finger-like.
- ✓Semen includes sperm and seminal plasma.
- ✓Hymen is not a reliable marker of sexual history.
Read anatomy statements literally and distinguish a structure's shape from its function.
