Read Anaplerosis During Gluconeogenesis
A short NSEB read on anaplerosis during gluconeogenesis, followed by the linked original question(s).
Living-system questions are solved by matching a structure or organism to its function, process and stated condition.
Core idea
When TCA intermediates are withdrawn for biosynthesis or gluconeogenesis, anaplerotic reactions replenish the cycle. Pyruvate carboxylase uses ATP and bicarbonate to convert pyruvate directly to oxaloacetate. This both supports gluconeogenesis and restores a TCA intermediate; converting pyruvate to acetyl-CoA does not replenish oxaloacetate.
Pyruvate carboxylase replenishes oxaloacetate
Pyruvate carboxylase converts pyruvate directly to oxaloacetate, replenishing the TCA pool while supporting gluconeogenesis.
