Identify the level

Many strains of rice are genetic diversity: variation among individuals or varieties within one species. Species diversity counts species; ecological diversity describes habitats and ecosystems.

Read key terms precisely

Bioprospecting explores genetic, species or molecular diversity for products of economic value. Endemism means a species is naturally restricted to a particular geographic region; it does not mean the species is endangered.

Read the global-diversity chart carefully

NCERT notes that conventional methods miss many microbial species, fishes are the most diverse vertebrates, and the global chart places molluscs above crustaceans. Treat chart-derived comparisons as relative patterns; do not generalise an unrelated rank to every taxonomic group.

OlympIQ exam lens

  • ✓Rice strains → genetic diversity.
  • ✓Endemism → geographic restriction.
  • ✓Bioprospecting → search for useful biological resources.
OlympIQ trap

Endemic describes where a species occurs, not how threatened it is.
