Know this first

Prolonged Postsynaptic Depolarisation is the central idea in this question pattern. Identify the condition in the stem before applying the method below.

Core idea

A postsynaptic membrane remains depolarised when inward positive current persists or outward positive current is reduced. Opening ligand-gated Na⁺/Ca²⁺ channels can depolarise it; inhibiting K⁺ channels slows repolarisation by reducing K⁺ efflux. Match the observed duration to the direction of ion movement, not just the channel name.

Reduced potassium efflux or sustained sodium entry

The final key accepts A or B. Sustained sodium influx can maintain depolarisation, and inhibition of potassium channels can prolong it by reducing repolarising potassium efflux.
