Apply the cycle count

If ovulation alternates between two ovaries, each contributes about six ovulations per year. If one ovary is removed, the remaining ovary can ovulate in successive cycles, about twelve times per year in the simplified model.

Track follicles through ovulation

Ovarian follicles mature around an oocyte; the preovulatory follicle releases a secondary oocyte at ovulation. The ruptured follicle becomes the corpus haemorrhagicum and then the corpus luteum; later regression leaves a corpus albicans.
