A gland sends a chemical message to a target

Identify the gland, its hormone and the effect separately. A deficiency or excess changes the normal response, not the gland’s location.

Follow the GnRH signal

Hypothalamic GnRH stimulates pituitary gonadotropin release. If GnRH is inhibited, LH and FSH should fall; a decreased LH level is evidence of successful inhibition.

Match pregnancy hormones

The placenta produces hPL and CRH. Placental CRH is associated with timing the onset of parturition. Oxytocin is released from the maternal posterior pituitary and drives uterine contractions; relaxin supports cervical and pelvic changes.

OlympIQ exam lens

  • ✓GnRH stimulates pituitary LH/FSH.
  • ✓GnRH inhibition lowers LH/FSH.
  • ✓Placenta: hPL and CRH.
  • ✓Maternal posterior pituitary: oxytocin.
