Detect targets

ELISA uses an enzyme-linked colour reaction to detect antigen or antibody. A nucleic-acid probe detects a complementary sequence; a mutation in the probe-binding region may remove the signal.

Treat inherited disease and infection

ADA deficiency can be managed with enzyme replacement or transplantation; gene therapy approaches depend on the target cells and may need repeated treatment. Recombinant hepatitis-B vaccine is a yeast-produced subunit vaccine, not a DNA vaccine.

Use therapeutic proteins

Recombinant products include insulin, growth hormone, vaccines and streptokinase. Human-sequence products reduce but do not categorically eliminate immune reactions; inspect each statement rather than generalising.

OlympIQ exam lens

  • ✓ELISA → enzyme-generated colour.
  • ✓Probe hybridisation needs complementary sequence.
  • ✓Hepatitis-B recombinant vaccine → yeast-made subunit vaccine.
  • ✓Streptokinase → clot-buster.
OlympIQ trap

A recombinant vaccine is not automatically a DNA vaccine.
