Recognise ethylene responses
Ethylene promotes climacteric fruit ripening, root-hair formation and potato-tuber sprouting. In deep-water rice, it stimulates internode elongation so leaves can remain above floodwater.
Use ethephon carefully
Ethephon releases ethylene in plant tissues. Ethylene generally promotes female flowers in cucurbits; it does not promote male flowering as claimed in the held sample statement.
OlympIQ exam lens
- ✓Ethylene: ripening, root hairs, potato sprouting.
- ✓Deep-water rice: internode elongation.
- ✓Cucurbits: ethylene favours female flowers.
