Compact prokaryotic DNA
The bacterial chromosome occupies a nucleoid, organised into large looped domains associated with proteins; it is not packaged into eukaryotic nucleosomes.
Stabilise eukaryotic chromatin
Histones are basic proteins rich in lysine and arginine. Non-histone proteins help organise higher-order chromatin and form a scaffold. Linker histone H1 binds DNA near the nucleosome entry/exit and stabilises packing.
OlympIQ exam lens
- ✓Prokaryote: nucleoid with protein-associated loops.
- ✓Histones are basic proteins.
- ✓H1 binds linker DNA and stabilises chromatin.
OlympIQ trap
