Know this first

Compound Microscope after Tube-Length Change is the central idea in this question pattern. Identify the condition in the stem before applying the method below.

Start with the physical model

Read the configuration once, state the conserved quantity or governing law, and mark any changing geometry, sign convention or limiting condition.

Build the relation

Objective power 100 D gives
fo=1cm;fo = 1 cm;
eyepiece power 20 D gives
fe=5cmfe = 5 cm
For final image at
D = 25 cm, eyepiece angular magnification is me=1+D/fe=6
Therefore initial objective magnification
mo=50/6=8.33mo = 50/6=8.33

Increasing tube length by 2 cm, while readjusting the object so the final image remains at D, raises the objective image distance by 2 cm and gives mo,new≈10.33. Thus total magnification M≈10.33×6≈62.

Check before selecting

Check units, sign and one limiting case. A valid result must still fit the original geometry and stated constraint.

OlympIQ exam lens

  • ✓Name the governing law before using a formula.
  • ✓Keep the stated geometry and direction information explicit.
  • ✓Use one unit or limiting-case check.
OlympIQ trap

Changing the tube length changes the objective part; do not change the eyepiece factor if the final image condition is retained.
