Read Capacitor Bridges: Use Node Charge Balance

A capacitor network with interior nodes is solved like a charge-balance problem. Interior conductors begin neutral, so the algebraic sum of capacitor charges connected to each one is zero.

Know this first

Capacitor Bridge Networks is the central idea in this question pattern. Identify the condition in the stem before applying the method below.

Start with the condition

Fix A and B at the source potentials. At X and Y write sum C(V-node - V-neighbour) = 0, solve their potentials, then calculate source charge and stored energy one-half C-equivalent V².

Build the governing relation

Test each computed voltage against the supply range. A passive network connected only between 0 and 12 V cannot create a node potential outside that range.

Finish with a physical check

Check the limiting case before selecting an option: remove the special feature in the diagram or make the relevant parameter very large or very small. The result should reduce to a familiar relation.

OlympIQ exam lens

  • ✓State the physical condition before choosing a formula.
  • ✓Keep direction, sign and constraint information explicit.
  • ✓Test one limiting case before committing to an option.
OlympIQ trap

Treating an unbalanced bridge as simple series-parallel hides the unknown middle-node potentials.
